A scream from trunk to bough,
The bark is choking, burned and broke,
Lightning left it’s scar, an arc of harm,
Wooden face, curled an spoke;
“My fear is here and now,
My fear is here and now!
My roots run deep yet they starve me,
This bark of mine is chapped and dry,
See how the lovers carved me
With heart shapes on my bough.”
